Lisbeth Sabol

Born in Washington, D.C., I draw great inspiration from the places I have lived and the people I have met while there: in Italy near Florence, on the shore of the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand, at the foot of the Sierra mountains in Nevada, in historic Annapolis, Maryland, and on the windward coast of Oahu.

My sculptures are included in numerous collections in the U.S., England, and New Zealand. Recent exhibitions include shows in New York City, London, and Honolulu. My work in public collections includes Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado; Glacier National Park, Montana; and Quiet Waters Park, Maryland.

I work primarily in bronze and stone, and enjoy sculpting the figure, portraits, and animals, from my own ideas and also on commission. Recently, I'm concentrating on creating bronze sculptures, including a collection of works of dynamic figures in motion. I have a strong background carving stone: my marble sculpture in the Rocky Mountain NP collection is a detailed portrait of 14,000' Longs Peak inspired by my climb to the summit while artist-in-residence. As sculptor-in-residence at Mt Rushmore, I demonstrated stone-carving on site daily while creating my original sculptures in stone. I was allowed to climb Mt Rushmore to study the carving details from the top of George Washington's head. I also sculpted at the month-long Tareitanga International Sculpture Symposium in Wellington, New Zealand, an event that showcased invited stone-carvers from around the world. While there, I carved a two ton figure out of a block of local NZ limestone.

I graduated from The College of William & Mary and hold degrees in Fine Arts and Biology.
